  1. I would tell someone who is just starting to think about working from home that it is not what the average person things, sitting at home in your pajamas, kids playing happily in the background while you work for a few hours. It is work, just like going to the office and requires dedication, scheduling and self-discipline.

  2. The biggest thing that helps me when working from home is to schedule everything in my calender. It’s best to use some kind of calender with an alarm or, if you do it on your computer, one that e-mails you notices reminding you it needs to be done.

When I first started I would just write everything that I wanted to do on a daily task list, but would always end up forgetting to do something. Now, I have every little thing entered in my Blackberry and feel so much more productive.

  3. If it is a company that you have not heard of before, be careful and check out them out before applying for the at home job. If the company asks for money to work for them, that is a red flag and it is highly likely that it is a scam. Do not give up! It may take awhile; but there are real jobs out there that you can do from home!

  4. It took a long time and a lot of patience to make family members and friends understand that I’m WORKING while I’m at home. They figured that since I was at HOME, they could call or drop in or ask me to pick up their child after soccer practice. My own family didn’t always understand why dinner wasn’t on the table at 6 p.m. or why I had to occasionally hire a babysitter to watch my children while I was right there–at HOME with them–but WORKING — with a deadline.

  5. Working at home is not stress free, One still has to put in the time and effort. Especially challenging when you have small children around. But it can be done! Necessity is the mother of invention and we all find our own ways to handle everyday living and working at home. It is doable!! When searching for work, the P word is a must, PATIENCE it can take a long time. Also for those wanting to transcribing work, you need to have some training to be able to get acquire a job in that area. Customer service, typing services, forum posting, blogging are areas you can make money and get work. Good luck to you all
